The Many Teeth of Vampires by Blandia Telfair

When you think of traditional vampire teeth, what comes to mind? 

This was not a question until I stumbled across a post on TikTok, showcasing various vampiric teeth in different tv shows. The caption on it was, “Your fangs are on the wrong teeth” which immediately got me thinking of a scene from Avatar: The Last Airbender where a character lets Zuko know his scar is on the wrong side. This then got me thinking, is there an incorrect portrayal of vampiric teeth in the media? Which brings me back to my opening question, and your possible answer. 

Maybe you think of the vampires from the infamous Twilight Saga. Maybe, you're a fan of The Vampire Diaries and prefer those sort of vampiric teeth along with the added facial features. A fan of Buffy The Vampire Slayer( a classic)? Underworld? Interview With The Vampire? Sinners?Being Human? Or maybe you don’t have a preference and just love vampires in general, consuming whatever sort of media you can get your hands on. All answers are acceptable( unless you like the teeth of the vampires from Dr Who and Supernatural, then I’m extremely scared of you). 

I love the topic of vampires in general because I deem myself an expert on the matter. For four straight years, I dressed up as a vampire for halloween…I wish I was joking. What can I say though, I was an obsessed nine-year-old. 

I’m still obsessed, but now I consider myself tame on the matter. 

The exploration of vampirism in media and the different avenues that are taken for this creative process in order to have people so enthralled must be studied. Despite my earlier comment on the vampires in Dr Who and Supernatural, I find the different takes on all vampires to be interesting. I mean how can I not? People are taking known aspects of these vampires and adding something new or flipping something old. For that reason, I don’t think I can ever get tired of vampires in the media. 

Although certain tropes must die on a hill with a flame engulfing it, and I will not elaborate.
